Folkie Fest: The Power of Song

This is our second event in collaboration with LTV Studios in Wainscott, NY. Join us for an afternoon of original music to inspire and support community. Performing on the LTV stage: Silas Jones, Rorie Kelly, Hank Stone, M Takes the Mic, and The Hucksters.
Silas Jones is a 20 year old singer-songwriter from East Hampton, NY. He attended American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) for Musical Theatre but whilst attending discovered a true love for songwriting and guitar playing. He writes down-to-earth songs about the many forms of love and loss one can experience. He hopes to continue this career path with music as time and life passes on.
Rorie Kelly is an award-winning singer/songwriter/ladybeast from Long Island. Her mission in life is to spread healing through art, and to remind you to love yourself with the fierceness of a kitten that doesn’t know it is tiny. Her music has been featured in film and TV shows, received radio airplay around the world, and led her to perform at the Obama White House in 2016. Her most recent album Shadow Work is about shining a light in the darkness and healing wounds. The production is big and dark, and performed largely by just two people – Rorie herself, and her father/production partner, Kevin Kelly. “It was exciting to us to see just how much power we could pack into these songs as two humans in a studio with a vision,” says Rorie. The songwriting looks deeply into topics like self-worth, growth and letting go, and how our culture treats people who don’t fit the mainstream “default.” The opening song, “Full Moon Charm Bracelet,” was featured in the 2021 film Hearts and Vines, which won a Telly Award for Use of Music. A powerhouse performer, Rorie gigs frequently, lighting up stages with her fiery vocals and her sense of humor. She also livestreams regularly on Twitch (twitch.tv/roriekelly), and performs exclusive all-request online concerts once a month for her patrons on Patreon (patreon.com/roriekelly). Hank Stone has been writing songs for over 50 years, but only started bringing them out to audiences in 2001. He quickly made a name for himself in the Long Island, New York music scene, and has since recorded 3 CDs of his original tunes, and is now performing often, as a solo act and occasionally with a band. Solo, Hank Stone calls to mind the diverse songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s, from Donovan to Paul Simon, Van Morrison to Jackson Browne. Walt Graham, of Acoustic Connections on WSHU in Fairfield, Connecticut, called Hank “a unique and wonderful songwriter.” His albums are available on all digital platforms. Hank is currently recording a new album with Paradiddle Records.
Emily Weitz (her friends call her M) is a Sag Harbor-based singer/songwriter who processes life’s nuances and harnesses our collective power through words and music. Liz Joyce brings her bright banjo and Katlyn Albrecht her soulful rhythm. M’s lead vocals are enhanced by the sweetness of Liz and Kate’sharmonies.Together, M Takes the Mic uses music as a tool to enjoy the sweetness – and process the struggles – of life.
The Hucksters are Greg Smith, Hank Stone and Susan and Mike Christian. But who are they really….? The infectious sound of friends playing skillfully and singing joyously in perfect harmony, accomplished musicians creating rich and diverse textures with guitar, banjo, harmonica, bass, flute, percussion, accordion and whatever else falls into their hands; and musical arrangements that are tightly rehearsed, yet delightfully loose and adventurous. In addition to their own original songs, The Hucksters play an eclectic mix of new and traditional folk, uplifting, righteous and soulful folk, songs of unity and community, songs for troubled times and matters of the heart, and an unique assortment of forgotten pop classics from years past.

Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space and support local, singer/songwriters sharing their original work. A 50/50 raffle is held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank at each show.
