Philippe Cheng is, in his own words, an “image maker.” That is, he is a photographer who creates “images that strive to have meaning and a point of view. To have an intentionality.” Join us for October’s Insight Sunday, as we explore Philippe’s gift for finding inspiration in the fullness of possibility that each moment presents.

Whether capturing the light and spirit of the East End of Long Island, studying the complexities of inner-city children growing up in Coney Island, speaking against forced silence, honoring chosen silence, or in collaboration with artist Bastienne Schmidt as they explore how ethnic and social groups in America deal with issues of death and dying, Phillippe has utilized his photography skills to showcase both geographical and social landscapes to move his viewer to a place of feeling and connection. Philippe’s love for photography has inspired his recent site-specific installations in collaboration with Guild Hall, The Leiber Museum, and The Watermill Center.

Insight Sundays, held the last Sunday of each month, provide individual artists with the opportunity to talk in-depth about their processes, techniques, and concepts in the presence of their work. The program allows the audience to see through the artist’s eye. It is a monthly program open to the public and free to our members. Philippe’s work is included in our Fall exhibition, RE:CYCLE – The Ubiquitous Bike, opening on October 8th and will be on view during our exhibition hours Wednesday through Sunday 12 PM – 5 PM.
