Artist and surfer Tony Caramanico will discuss his new book Montauk Surf Journals and share insights into his surfing career, art practice, travels and life in Montauk. A Q &A and book signing will follow the reading.  His book chronicles his life as a surfer and artist, presenting a selection from  thousands of journal entries spanning over 40 years. The eighteen-inch-thick, duct-tape-bound three-ring binders of surfing conditions and travel notes are interspersed with drawings, rubbings and collages. These entries provide an intimate purview of the day-to-day life of a traveling surfer in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, highlighting the time he spent in Montauk and his work with artist, photographer, diarist and writer Peter Beard. An exhibition of Tony Caramanico’s prints that reproduce selected pages from his journal will be on display in the library’s Community Room. A Q & A and book signing will follow the reading.
