Galerie Mitobo presents a series of contemporary works at the boundaries of photography, textile, and sculpture. From Evan Jaccodine’s haunting risographs, to Andrea Cote’s monoprints of hair, to Tis & Vitaly’s gossamer photo-sculpture on silk, to Francine Fletcher’s mysterious world of water and vines, to Mark Webber’s delicate assemblage of foam, paper, and thread, this group exhibit brings together local and international artists who interrogate image and form through the materiality of their process.

Evan Jaccodine (b. 1996) creates enigmatic risographic art where digital imaging confronts analog printmaking. Drawing on his own experience with experimental and advertising photography, his work embraces the materiality of the printing process and the irregularity of ink on paper, reflecting the practice of a new generation whose art must exist at the crossroads of organic craftsmanship and industrial capitalism.

Mark Webber (b. 1954) draws on his background as a cabinetmaker to reimagine plaster, foam, and fabric into delicate sculptures that radiate balance between line and texture. Webber, who lives and works with Parkinson’s disease, incorporates tremor into an artistic process where conceptual abstraction intersects with the physicality of creation.

Water plays a central role in the photography of Francine Fleischer (b. 1960), as both an inspiration and an optical lens through which shapes and light are distorted and sublimated. Fleischer’s famed swimming series takes a new direction in these black and white pieces, where vines become threads, and water becomes space.

The art of Andrea Cote (b. 1970) visualizes the physicality of human hair at the intersection of photography and printmaking. Cote creates monoprints by laying hair down in a grid pattern onto an inked plate on a press. The hair slips and tangles, refusing to quite become a textile, and imprinting instead on paper the unruliness of the body.

Parent-and-son duo Tis & Vitaly (b. 1975 and 1994) draw on their background in design and archeology to create vivid mixed-media art at the intersection of photography and material science. Their work takes on the charismatic physical presence of sculpture as textiles, polymers, and papers endow images with a third dimension.
