Opening Reception: Glen Hansen – Paintings
This body of work was inspired by New York City and dates from 2008 to 2024. Often referred to as a hyperrealist or precisionist, Hansen’s paintings reflect architectural motifs and his obsession with atmosphere by utilizing light, shadow and patterns and are evident in this exhibit. His use of glazing techniques was developed through the study of old masters such as Rubens, Vermeer and van Eyck, and in fact the Maroger medium he uses is a rediscovered medium of Peter Paul Rubens.
Having been influenced by a proud family of carpenters, stone masons and architects, Hansen has used architecture as the main theme in his art for the past 45 years. His paintings exemplify incredible attention to detail with the human element of his work evident in the craftsmanship of the structures juxtaposed to sky which represents nature. Working in themes, Hansen’s choice of subjects is a visceral reaction to discovering a structure and then, taking that reaction to creating a painting which reflects that passion. His meticulous technique and keen eye have earned him critical acclaim and numerous exhibitions across the United States and internationally.
